Chain Link Fence Decorating Ideas

13 Aug What To Do With A Chain Link Fence

AStoriedStyle.com

I'd be curious to see how many of you have a chain link fence you don't love.  We have a strip of it that I am not a huge fan of, though we purchased these to help with that last year.

However, there is still a bit of chain link left to cover, and I have been pondering exactly what to do.  Chain link can be an eyesore, but it can also be charming in a way.  There is a stretch of it at my husband's family's land along their drive that just feels homey to me.  Maybe surrounded by green pastures, chain link is not so bad?

But if you have your own chain link fence you do not love (or any other type of fence for that matter), I have some great ideas for you!

1.  Make it Bold, Make it Graphic – pretty cool, right?  Cups people, colored cups.  That's all you need to recreate this pattern.

2.  Cover It With Pretty, Pretty Flowering Vines – Yes, it takes time to get this kind of coverage, but choosing a fast growing vine like jasmine or crossvine would help.

3.  Lacey Lace – Aren't these installations neat?  They are created by a company not giving away their secret quite yet – you can read more about them here. I think you creative people out there could figure out a way to do this.

4.  Add Fence Slats – This looks so sweet, a few wood slats can go a long way!

5.  Use Awnings To Cover Them – I saw this idea over at Making It Lovely, and I think it could be so cute!

6.  Attach Trellises To It – I LOVE the way this looks!  Of course, the beautiful landscaping really helps, but notice the chain link is not fully covered, and yet, do you even notice it?  No!  You are immediately drawn to the wood trellis and greenery.  Well done!

7.Attention Renters! Check out this low cost, easy to install, easy to remove solution!  Using some cedar planks from Lowes and a little hardware, this couple created a very cool look!  You can see the full DIY here.

8.  Add Reed Or Bamboo Panels – These are easily found at your local hardware store!

9.  Paint It! – It seems so simple, but really, painting your chain link fence a color instantly makes it look more finished.  Black, white, green, or a pop of color, I think a can of paint does wonders for this type of fence.Tip:  Make sure you use Rustoleum or some other type of rust resistant paint intended for metal.

10.  Add A Quirky Collection – Okay, this may not be for everyone, but I think if you have the right personality, and enough kitsch in your house, you can pull this off.

Any of these ideas encourage you in your quest to make your chain link fence work for you?

One last thing…drumroll please, I'm announcing the winner of the $500 Home Depot Gift Card Giveaway!  I used Random.org to pick the winner.
